HOW YOU CAN HELP

Yes, we need money, yes we need volunteers, most definitely we need your good wishes and contact.
ComaCARE has been entirely supported by voluntarism. Some of our success stories since our inception in May 2005 have been:

  • This website!
  • “The Coma Detective” children’s book.
  • Training ComaCARE volunteers (level 1 and level 2 training) who work in teams to support coma clients.
  • Counseling family members of coma clients by email and telephone.
  • Training CANSA (cancer organization based in South Africa) home care givers.
  • Giving talks to educate the public about coma.
  • Building a reference library of coma material.
  • Interviewing coma clients for a possible publication in 2007.
  • ComaCare volunteers supporting families and clients in neurosurgery ward in Groote Schuur teaching hospital
  • Hosting international research students and 9 medical students from UCT Medical School:
    • Comparison of coma care in private and public health care systems in South Africa.
    • Coma Care for children in the Red Cross Children's Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa
    • The care of the unidentified coma patient
    • Comparison of indigenous belief systems
    • Family members concerns and questions
And many more plans afoot.
If you feel moved to support please do!
