ComaCARE
is a new Not for Profit (NPO) initiative of concerned health
and human rights professionals, care givers and family members,
moved to improve and enhance the current provision of coma care
in our society. It is inspired by the belief that people in
coma are in meaningful life processes. Go

OUR VISION
Persons in all stages of coma are given maximum opportunity
to live as fully as possible and participate in and make decisions
about their own care and status.
OUR MISSION
We aim for ComaCARE principles to be
practiced in mainstream health, social and legal provision in
Southern Africa.
We do this through:
Coma communication training.
Advocacy for coma care provision
in legislation and living wills.
Research – international
and indigenous.
Educating the general public
to create an enabling environment for coma work.
We support the establishment of other ComaCARE
organizations with similar principles.
OUR VALUES
We believe coma clients have the
right to: •Express their likes and dislikes about
their treatment in advance, and while in coma.
•Receive counseling about their state.
•Have their family supported and trained in coma communication.
•Decide on their own life and death process.
We foster: •Acceptance and compassion in all who try to relate
to people in deep remote states of consciousness.
•The spirit of cooperation with those who are interested
in, impacted or affected by coma states.
• Humility as learners, with coma clients’ experience
being our greatest teacher.
